Right now: stay safe
- Stay out of standing flood water and treat it as contaminated. It can carry sewage, chemicals and debris.
- If water is near outlets, cords, appliances or the electrical panel, don't touch them. Have the power shut off by your power company or a licensed electrician.
- Watch for snakes, fire ants and other wildlife pushed out by the water.
- Wear rubber boots and gloves when you go in.
- Follow Brevard County Emergency Management and the National Weather Service in Melbourne for updates and road closures. The county's page also has a form to report flood damage to your home.
First 24–48 hours: document and protect
- Photograph and video every room and every damaged item before anything is moved or thrown out, including the water line on the walls.
- Write down how high the water got in each room.
- Report your claim to your insurance company and write down the claim number.
- Keep receipts for everything you pay for because of the flood: pumps, fans, supplies, a hotel.
- Save a piece of the wet carpet or flooring if your insurance company asks for one.
- Don't throw out damaged belongings until they're photographed and listed.
- Start drying right away: open windows when it's dry outside, and run fans and dehumidifiers.
Getting the water out and drying
- Remove standing water with a pump or wet vac.
- Pull up wet rugs, carpet and carpet pad.
- Move furniture out of wet rooms, or up onto blocks.
- Wet drywall and insulation usually have to be cut out above the water line (a “flood cut”).
- Dry the house fast, and get moisture readings before any wall is closed back up.
Before you hire anyone
- Check the contractor's license on the Florida DBPR Verify a License site.
- Get a written, itemized estimate before work starts.
- Don't pay a large amount up front. Get what's due, and when, in writing.
- Be careful with door-to-door “storm chasers”. Ask for a license number and check it.
- Price gouging is illegal during a declared state of emergency. Report it to the Florida Attorney General at 1-866-9NO-SCAM or MyFloridaLegal.com.

How we restore your home
- 1
Extract the water
Emergency water extraction: we pump out standing water and get wet flooring and contents out of the way.
- 2
Moisture readings & drying
We map moisture in the walls and floors, set air movers and dehumidifiers, and keep taking readings until the structure is dry.
- 3
Tear out wet materials
Flood cut: wet drywall, insulation, baseboards, flooring and cabinets come out, and we clean up.
- 4
Rebuild
Drywall, cabinets, flooring and trim, under our certified general contractor license (CGC1534177), with a written itemized estimate before the work starts.
We document the damage with photos and moisture readings and give you a written itemized estimate you can share with your insurer. Electrical, plumbing and HVAC work is done by licensed subcontractors.
